How to Check Half Shorting

Half shorting

Mobile phone PCB half shorting is the situation when a phone switches on and works, but the battery depletes very quickly.

This means there is some dry solder on the phone's PCB or some small components such as SMD capacitors are faulty and need to be replaced.

How to check for half shorting:
1. Keep the digital multimeter in buzzer mode.

2. Check the phone's battery connector forward (red probe on positive and black probe on negative). If the multimeter reads 1, then the PCB is fine and there is no shorting.

3. If the value is 25 in forward checking, then there is half shorting.

4. Now check the battery connector in reverse (red probe on negative and black probe on positive). If the multimeter reads between 350 to 650, then there is no shorting and the PCB is fine.

5. If the value is 350 in reverse checking, then there is half shorting.

6. If the value is the same in both forward and reverse checking, then there is half shorting.
